Friday Family Devo: IMAGINE IF YOU COULD SEE GOD
Read the text and briefly discuss it together. Some discussion-starter questions are provided. Then read the closing text as a guide to your family prayer and finish by praying together and singing a hymn.
Hebrews 11:23–27 tells us that Moses endured a lot during his ministry, but he endured it all because he lived as if he could see God, even though God is invisible to us in this life.
What would you do if you could see invisible things? Some people might think of movies or books where characters have the power to become invisible or to see those who can, but in real life, seeing the invisible isn't about magic or superpowers. It's about believing in real spiritual things that we can't see with our physical eyes.
The Bible says faith doesn't believe in things without proof; it knows about things we can't see (Heb 11:1). God put a sort of invisible curtain between us and the spirit world so we wouldn't get hurt by seeing things we're not ready for. If God were to let us see His glory while we’re mortals, it would immediately kill us. His beauty and power are more than we can currently endure seeing.
What will it feel like to see God's greatness someday when He makes us ready and able to see it and still live? We can only guess for now. But we should try to imagine what it will be like so we can feel that wonder in our hearts. We need to see with our hearts what we can’t see with our eyes. If we could see God and the spirit world, we would all want to worship God because seeing His beauty and power would be amazing.
Discuss:
• If you could see into the invisible world of spirits, what would you most want to see first?
• How do you think seeing the spirit world would change our lives?
• What does it mean to you to “see with your heart” even when your eyes can't see something?
This week, we learned about living life as if we could see into the invisible spiritual places. The spiritual places are real, but we have to use our imaginations since we can’t see them yet. This helps us worship God as we should. Let’s say a special prayer to the Lord to ask Him to help us live as if we could see Him and to worship Him obediently, with sincere hearts full of awe, wonder, gratitude, and contemplation.
