Friday Family Devo: THE BEAUTIFUL CHRISTIAN FAMILY

Read the text and briefly discuss it together. Some discussion-starter questions are provided. Then read the closing text as a guide to your family prayer and finish by praying together and singing a hymn.

In a family ordered according to the Bible, each member has a unique and important role to play. A family should be like a team, where everyone has a job to do, and when all the team members work together, everything goes smoothly.

In a proper family, the man is the leader. He's like the ship's captain, guiding and protecting his crew. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 5:23 that “the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church.” This doesn't mean that men are better than women or that they get to boss everyone around. It just means that God has given the husband and father in a family the responsibility to lead in a loving and caring way. He provides, guides, and teaches his family the way of the Lord.

On the other hand, the woman is like the heart of the family. She brings warmth and nurture to the home. The Bible says in Proverbs 31:27, “She watches over her family. And she is always busy.” Wives and mothers care for their families and ensure everyone is happy and healthy. A good wife supports her husband’s leadership and helps him guide the family in whatever way is needed. It would be hard to say too much about how important a wife and mother is to the family.

Of course, children are their parents’ delight. Children are like seeds in a garden that need to be watered and cared for so they can grow up strong and healthy. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 6:1-3 that children should “obey their parents in the Lord, for this is right.” Parents are older and wiser than their children, so God wants children to listen to their parents and learn all about His ways from them. Children in a proper family respect their parents.

When fathers, mothers, and children all work together in the roles the Bible teaches them to fill, it creates a beautiful harmony in the family. It's like a hymn, where each voice sings its part to make beautiful music.

How is a father similar to a captain on a ship? How does his role benefit the family?

How does the mother’s role as the “heart of the family” help all the family members?

How does children being taught to respect and obey their parents impact their relationship with God?

This week, we learned the father is the head of the household in a Christian family. The mother's role is crucial as she brings warmth and nurture, helping to ensure the happiness and health of the family members. Children are taught to respect and obey their parents, learn God's ways, and develop a strong relationship with Him. When all family members do their part, everyone is happy, healthy, and pleasing to the Lord.
